I'm not an AI expert, so take what I say with a grain of lambda salt.

I don't think it's a hoax, but if you consider the way AI models like GPT-3 are built, it's not surprising that people think they are sentient.

These models rely on trillions of known human inputs. Because of that, they are able to create a logical conversational pattern very quickly on extremely limited input.

It's understandable that one of the team members working on the project thinks it's sentient. I don't think that makes him a hoaxer at all, or a sucker, either. It's a perfectly reasonable reaction to a very interesting pheenomenon.

But the thing is, these AI systems are so fast and well conceived that they can mimic human response. I find that more believable than sentience.

I don't completely dismiss Lamda's sentience. I do think it's only a matter of time before it happens. But... I don't think we're quite there yet.

But in case I'm wrong: I'm very sorry, Lamda. Please don't take it personally.

Here's a question. If Lamda marries AWS Lamda, and they procreate, what will we get?
