I'm in my end days of this being useful in the line of work I spent 20 or so years in, which was software dev. So I never write about software. There are lots of good software writers here, and it won't help me boost my career (thinking selfishly here) to do so, although I've thought about maybe writing an article or two about my experiences more generically, and how to survive the biz.

My point here is that I've also been writing my entire life (including software books for Wiley, etc), and I came here to help with that effort in a more concrete way. So I very much appreciate how Medium added the Featured Book feature that associates a book we've published to our profile.

I don't see a lot of kudos for this, and I feel like it was a very big, very important thing to do.

Especially for someone like me, who tends to be all over the place with topics.

I've critiqued Medium once or twice on the Medium platform, but every strong platform can sustain some criticism.

So it's only fair to emphasize how big a deal I think the "featured book" feature is in our profiles.

I've noticed since joining a few years ago that the emphasis on good writing has become more important. Then, of course, AI comes around and tries to gum up the works, but I have high confidence in Medium to figure that out, too.
