I'm not saying what I wrote is THE answer. But something like it needs to be done. The Cliff's Notes is this: Rural voters (and urban, too!) don't want to be retrained so that they can work in call centers or drive around all day for Uber, Amazon, or whoever.

They want real jobs. A lot of them want to work with their hands. They should be empowered to do so.

We need a combination of industrial policy and a massive jobs program - WPA 2.0.

I am skeptical anything like that can happen in this country, and most of your daily doom and gloom shall come to pass.
