I worked remotely with Ukrainians in a software project for a couple of years. Russia invaded during that time. So I have some personal sentiment here, and personal animosity towards Putin.

They were a great bunch to work with, and were relentlessly diligent and committed to the work, even during the early days of the invasion when everyone urged them to not worry about such things as daily stand ups for our sprints.

I haven't been at all surprised at Russia's inability to conquer them. I AM a little surprised that Russia is still trying.
