I think you did a good job.- it gave me more to think about. I'm still not sure I'd come to the same conclusion as you did, but overall my position has always been one of questioning his presence there in the first place. A shooting in a melee is rarely going to have an obvious legal ending.
His presence there is a different subject on the face of it. But for me it is tangentially related. The parents had culpability here. Not on what happened to the shooting victims from a legal standpoint, but on what happened to their son and the people who encountered him.
It's impossible for me to answer "yes" to the question of "If Kyle Rittenhouse had not showed up would those people have died that night?" In all likelihood, they would have survived that evening's events.
Our justice system may not have a clean solution for this. But I hope his parents are asking themselves this question every night before they go to sleep.
