I think parents who spit out racist rants (like mine did) when their kids are around are committing a form of child abuse. For one thing, they are trying to train their children to be like them, which ultimately will make them targets of ridicule in a society that is slowly (too slowly) striving for social justice.

If the parents are successful, their kids will get their day on Reddit on subs like r/WhitePeopleTwitter as they, too, blather on with their nonsense.

For another, even those of us who reject it all can still hear the tapes in our heads. They never really stop.

It's like your parents getting a syringe and infecting you with a virus. We need to constantly monitor our thoughts and read Black voices in literature and here on Medium to keep the virus at bay. It also helps to have a few Black friends!

Those 10 things you listed are almost like a template for these folks, and it isn't because of the internet. My dad died before the internet was born, but he said all those things, too.
