I tend to prefer shows with people I really like (which means they're usually good people). Breaking Bad was an exception. I really enjoyed that show, but that's normally not at all my thing. And in my own fiction, a hero is at the center of everything. I'm not into "anti-heroes." What makes heroes work for fiction is the unicorn nature of their acts.

In a way, the vampire in my new novel is an anti-hero, but the Atlanta detective who he has conflicts is most definitely not, yet he is salty as hell. So heroes can be done in the modern age of literature and fiction.

I'm seeing more of it on streaming shows, too. The 80s, ironically were full of anti-heroes. That's slowing down, I think, even as characters become more complex.
