I know exactly what you are saying here - I've never in my life had to thrust both my hands onto the steering wheel when pulled over. What's worse is that is often not enough to guarantee safety.
It's really kind of sick.
But here's a question I have that I haven't had time to research, and it came up again when the young (13 years old) boy who was killed in Chicago, because if I remember that story right, he was shot in the back.
Isn't it against federal law to shoot someone who is running away? Or is that some urban myth? It very well may be something I made up in my head.
Anyway, law or not, it's time to impose tough federal standards over police forces. Most local units are trained to shoot to kill. Their excuse is that cops are in danger, but it's not police who are in danger anymore. It's all of society.
The Black community is rightly only going to take so much more of this before it rises up and turns against all of us. They've been incredilby patient and kind throughout all this. I live in Atlanta and the lack of animosity towards me as an older white guy astounds me. They're better than me, that's for sure.
Anyway, thanks for the stand you're taking. It does matter.
