I have an English (and Nordic) background but I gotta say, the English who freak out about Meghan's skin are crazy.
As Wikipedia might say it: "It seems likely that the first modern humans had relatively large numbers of eumelanin-producing melanocytes, producing darker skin similar to the indigenous people of Africa today. As some of these original people migrated and settled in areas of Asia and Europe, the selective pressure for eumelanin production decreased in climates where radiation from the sun was less intense."
So when they Brits show some concern that Meghan is "too dark", what they are saying is that her ancestors should have lived in more northern climates.
I personally would love to have some southern climate melanocytes in my system. I dislike the pallor, the pastiness, and general susceptibility to rashes that my northern skin has.
To be a bit more politically incorrect, from a pure aesthetic viewpoint, darker skin just looks better. Whites admit this everytime they lay in the sun at the beach.
