I hate to point fingers, but I am going to do it anyway. Much of this "question" of science starts in the faith community.

These folks have jumped onto the science denial creed of Trump, even as scientists such as Francis S. Collins, purveyor of much of today's advanced gene research and an avowed Christian, looks on from his perch at the government's National Institutes of Health, in (I assume) great dismay.

Not so many people believe in God these days, partly because of fundamentalists and creationists who disavow science, which is the language God uses (IMO) to speak to us.

This speaks to a larger backlash against all expertise, which also is fueled by such Trumpisms as:

"There's nobody bigger or better at the military than I am." — June 2015 Fox News interview

"I know more about ISIS than the generals do. Believe me." — November 2015

And on and on.

But Trump is the symptom of a larger disease, methinks.
