I had to apply early because of a financial emergency. It was seamless. But then I did a lot of freelance work and exceeded the amount you're allowed to make in early retirement (there's no limit otherwise) and they snatched half of it away by cutting off payments for about half a year. Luckily by then I was able to do without it. The payments resumed a couple months ago and it's nice to have it again.
