I guess I'm an outlier on this based on the comments, but I just don't understand folks who say AI is useful for help with the "blank page."
The blank page is why we write in the first place. If we need help with it, we should look for something else to do for a living. It's not like writing pays a lot, for the most part.
Same for dialog. The character either comes alive for you, or it doesn't. Understanding the nuance of different voices is part of being a writer. And frankly, I trust a writer to do that better than AI. Adding a bit of foreign dialog? Maybe. But that's an exception that would rarely be considered, since you're writing for a specific language.
I'm with Neil Clarke of Clarkesworld magazine, which is probably the best science-fiction magazine on the market right now.
He says this on the Submission page:
"Statement on the Use of “AI” writing tools such as ChatGPT:
We will not consider any submissions written, developed, or assisted by these tools. Attempting to submit these works may result in being banned from submitting works in the future."
I wrote about the problems Clarkesworld has had with AI-generated spam/plagiarism in an article here. I'm sure I'll get a lot of negative comments. Which is fine, just be sure they're not AI-generated, lol.
