I grew up with almost no Black history whatsoever. Frederick Douglass and maybe a dose of DuSable (DuSable only because I grew up in Chicago).
The movie Hidden Figures made me wonder, "what might have happened if slaves had been emancipated in the late 1770s?" So I spent three years researching and writing Restive Souls (many excerpts now available on Medium).
What I discovered blew me away, and I really feel like I've barely scratched the surface. I discovered great accomplishments, but I still feel like I know just a tiny bit of a history that has been hidden from us, purposely, with direct, insidious intent that continues to this day.
White people need to take a stand against the White Jesus, but instead they're voting for him. I'm trying my best to help educate them, but they'll tune me out, just like they'll tune you out. I'll keep trying anyway.
