I get the angst. I really do.
But. As a fellow Boomer I have to say that our generation gave us Reagan and Trump.
I'm not sure how to defend that.
We all know about Trump. So on to Reagan.
Reagan introduced the idea that big government is bad, and the upper tax bracket during the 40 years since basically evaporated from a high of around 90%.
When I went to university at a modest public university (they were called public for a reason) my tuition was less than $400/semester. I was able to work at the local grocery store during the summer to pay for it. Today, that same university is $16,000/semester. Kids need to mortgage their future to attend even modest state unversities.
The list really goes on, but under our "guidance" society has gone all Ayn Rand on us. Millenials and Gen Zers are pissed and rightfully so. And don't even get me started on climate change.
Somehow, the government being a caretaker of the downtrodden has become a sin, and low taxes are the most important thing in the world.
These kids can't afford a decent living unless they work in the few high end jobs available. It ain't cool.
