I find it all quite annoying. StoryGraph has a "reading challenge," and GoodReads wants to track the book I'm reading. Out of spite, I've kept the same book in my GoodReads "Currently reading" entry for about three years.
Devil's advocate: If this is what it takes to get young people to read, I'm all for it. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the 12+ books per year count and that less than 20% read no books.
I can't read as much as I used to as I've gotten older. My eyes just tire me out. I also can't read a lot of I'm editing my own novel. I can if I'm just writing one, though.
