I don't think it's quite as simple as falling for the neoliberal line as it is that we haven't recovered from the 1980s onslaught of Reaganism. Reagan convinced the country that big government is bad, as are taxes. I would say most soccer moms still believe that, for the most part. Those soccer moms are the ones who voted for Biden (who has actually infused his administration with a surprisingly large number of socialist democrats).

Socialist democrats are terrible at promoting their cause. AOC is somewhat unique in that because she has such a flare for words. But overall, it's all pretty abysmal.

The way to win is to follow the old Republican model. Start at the lowest levels and work up. Win city council and school board and county board seats. Even local district attorney races.

That model has been devastatingly effective for Republicans. And it doesn't take as long as you might expect.
