I don't think Americans truly comprehend the social stability of such neighborhoods. They shouldn't need to in order to be outraged, but the fact of it adds to the depravity of these attacks.

Americans are very transient. They move out of neighborhoods and hometowns without thinking about it. But in Ukraine (and other countries) things are much different.

I've spent a lot of time working with Ukrainians before and during the war over Zoom, and I'm amazed at the resilience.

The story of Mariupol is ghastly. I wish I had words of comfort, but I really don't, other than I'll keep you and your fellow Ukrainians in my prayers.
