I don't really know what would happen with Bezo's wealth if he left the country, because most of his wealth is still held in stocks. When someone says Bezos is worth X amount of dollars, it means he has X number of dollars in stocks that he could cash out. He has a certain amount of non-stock-related capital, but it's nowhere near published amounts.
I can't even say if he could cash it all out now. It depends on the form of stock he is holding. Some of it for sure, but probably not all of it.
The real point of a wealth tax is to put the brakes on how much one person can earn.
Whether or not that sends them to another country cannot be a consideration. It is extremely unlikely that any kind of tax policy whatsoever will initiate a mass exodus from this country.
The U.S. essentially had a wealth tax before Reagan came. Most of us old farts who remember the boom years pre-Reagan are really only asking that we return to the tax tables of the 1970s, when we actually paid for shit.
