I don't even think basic income it's a bad idea, if that makes sense. The intentions are good. I just know how it'll play out, based on history. And it may even be necessary, given trends. Which of course runs counter to my original argument.
As for the workers actually owning the means to production, it seems like a child's fantasy. Sometimes I look at sports and entertainment, and imagine how they could lead the way. For example: how long can sports teams keep paying stars like Messi and Ohtani hundreds of millions of dollars? Eventually, it becomes unsustainable. I can imagine a sports league collapsing and ownership falling to the players, but would the rich players include the marketing people and the ticket agents in a new ownership scheme? I doubt it. Anytime I give it much thought, reality takes over.
