I agree. Part of the problem is that so much of journalism is entrapped in the corporate culture of mega profits, and those that aren't work for places that are getting stripped down by private equity investors who fire 3/4 of their newsroom staff and the people who support them. The Chicago Tribune is a shell of its former self, as are lots of other papers.
There are others trying to pick up the slack: ProPublica, for one, PublicSquare, and Semafore (new) is interesting, I think journalists are aware of what is happening and some of them are trying to fix it. :-)
