Good God I didn't even think about the damn judge. You know, that injustice actually carried into the Illinois Supreme Court, which upheld the sentence. I didn't know that, until I looked it up just now.

Minnesota has pretty lax sentencing laws, anyway. For example, for his most serious charge:

"Minnesota sentencing guidelines say someone with no previous criminal history, which is Chauvin’s case, should be sentenced to 12.5 years."

So the type of pen he is slammed into will make all the difference. But that brings up the whole mass incarceration of black folks question, and the fact this country seems totally fine with the status quo in that regard (https://www.sentencingproject.org/publications/color-of-justice-racial-and-ethnic-disparity-in-state-prisons/)

I think we need an aggressive program to empty these prisons out, but I guess I'm out of sync with this crazy country.
