Good advice for novel-writing, too. I'm told my characters are pretty richly contoured, but what finally happens is that they dictate the ending for me. I don't know how many other writers that happens to, but mine tend to take over scenes. One time, one of my characters did something and I almost said out loud, "No. Did she really do that?"

It's my favorite part of writing.
