Go look at the Christmas decorations in any town in America over the population of 50,000 or so, and the crowd we mingle with pretty much looks the United Nations. Sorry, I guess we can't do that this year, but you get the point.
So - yeah, I used to think it the Trump phenomenon was all about racism, but whatever racists are afraid of has already happened. The U.S. is truly a melting pot - Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition writ large, whether racists like it or not.
Can't change it. That "war" is over, and the racists lost.
I think most white Americans, even those still steeped in prejudice, are over it. If not them, their kids certainly are.
No, the problem runs a lot deeper. We have a new underclass of people in this country, hopeless, addicted, in pain, and they'll listen to anybody who speaks to their frustration.
Democrats need to forcefully address the economic conditions of this country in a way that tackles both urban and rural poverty.
I touched on that here just before the election. Biden did win, but the next Democratic nominee won't unless the inequalities and economic disparities are addressed:
