From my morning's NY Times newsletter: "A person with knowledge of the events told Maggie Haberman that Trump had resisted sending in the National Guard even after the Capitol had been stormed and that it had taken intervention from senior White House officials to get those forces ordered into action."
Also yesterday evening CBS was reporting that all of the law enforcement and military deployment decisions were being made by Pence in consultation with the Pentagon. They explicitly pointed out that Trump was not involved in any of that decision making.
So it may be happening as we speak.
Yeah, it should have happened earlier, but I doubt enough buy-in would have happened before this kind of event.
The President's mental condition is clearly deteriorating in front of our eyes at an accelerated pace. He is a danger to himself and others.
I reckon that even if the 25th is not invoked, Spanky has lost all his power. I also reckon that Pence has effectively assumed the presidency’s most important duties (from a military standpoint, at least), with the full cooperation of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. We will never hear about this, of course, unless Pence reveals it in a memoir during his twilight years.
