For me, this headline is a lot like saying, "Don't become a day trader!"

or

"Don't invest in real estate!"

You gotta know your subject matter, Crypto is no different. Research it if you're gonna do it.

I remember looking into mining bitcoin when it first came out. I wish I had, I'll say that. I got a little lazy and blew it off.

It was worth, I don't know for sure, but maybe a hundred bucks back then or some ridiculous number. Look at it now. I'm not crazy about the environmental impacts of bitcoin, but there are alternatives now.

I'm glad I don't have anyone to yell at for talking me out of it. It was my own reluctance, built not so much on any distrust of bitcoin so much as just not having the energy to mine it. These days of course, you can just find a marketplace to buy it on, but that wasn't true when I first looked into it - or if it was they were all just getting started.
