Excellent article. The movement towards home schooling has had me concerned for some time.

One of the great advantages young people have over people my age (I'm 62) is that they are surrounded by many more ethnicities in their public schools than were my generation. Many classrooms look like a young person's United Nations convention, which is a marvelous thing.

One result of that is that when we old white guys make one of our stupid race related or homophobic comments, they either roll their eyes and ignore us or express extreme disgust.

There are many, many white kids now for whom race isn't even a topic. That's not to claim racism is cured, not at all. But there was at least some momentum building towards an unprecedented degree of color blindness. That momentum was already getting thwarted by the bubble of home schooling. The virus can only expand that bubble, and destroy the momentum that was building.
