Ever since Cuomo whipped Zephyr Teachout in the 2014 primaries, anyone who has watched New York politics knows that New York Democratic voters aren't terribly interested in progressive candidates.

Cynthia Nixon also got routed.

New Yorkers are like Russians that way. They love the heavy hand of machine politics. Nobody who knows how Cuomo operates is at all surprised by any of this.

That's the main reason that this hasn't gotten any traction. It was as expected.
