I don't think the problem is phone screens and laziness, though. I think it's the insane wage gaps between the haves and have nots.
Yes, iron workers make a very decent wage - but it is is still minuscule compared to those who pay them.
Until the tax burden is shifted from the workers to the wealthiest, there is little incentive to toil away for the guy in the $90,000 Tesla.
It's true, also, that the shop classes are gone. But that's also a result of conservative policies. Conservatives have stripped public education down to nothing. School districts can't afford shop classes.
We live in a society that accepts these things. The votes on election night confirm this every 2 years.
The people who are hurt most by this are the people voting for it.
