Ah, but there you go, getting to the root of the problem.

The root of the problem is that the underclass of America has expanded exponentially as part of the country's 40-year rightward lurch, of which centrists, or neoliberals or whatever you want to call them, have helped nurture.

There was an interesting article circulating around the web yesterday about a nurse in North Dakota who was freaked out by angry, dying coronavirus patients who are still denying covid. She said they are dying with hate in their hearts.

Something is seriously wrong with the part of America that voted for Trump, all 70 million of them.

It's like a mass pathology of some kind, and the way to start treating it is like any disease: cure the root of what causes it.

A WPA 2.0 would be a good start. These people who are dying from the inside out don't want job training so they can work in call centers. They don't want to be Uber or DoorDash delivery drivers or Amazon workers.

They want to work with their hands in a way that makes them feel like they are contributing to their local economy.

There is a way to do that, but our politicians have the vision of bats in sunlight.
